By Ilekam Goodnews
Two second half goals from onuwa orji and Aaron okoro inspired Jewel Football Academy to a comfortable victory over Tatzon fc in ohanze
The visitors from umuahia dominated proceedings early on as they had a firm retention of possession in the middle of the park, not until in the 8th minute their dominance became shortlived when the skillful Spencer for the home team capitalized on a loose ball to dance his way through from the left flank, as he gracefully switched a long ball to the onrushing onuwa orji only for the diminutive right back to shoot wide.
Jewel football academy eventually found a foothold in the game, newly joined striker ogbebe making a couple of early statements as his pace kept the opposition defenders on their toes. The ohanze based side almost had an opening goal midway into the first half when skipper, jonadab found himself in the 6 yard box, latching on to a squared ball from a resultant set piece only for his close range effort to go agonizingly off the post, and just few minutes before halftime ogbebe expertly turned a defender inside the box to shoot wide.
The second half came to life early on as spencer’s acrobatic effort off onuwa orji’s swung in ball went over the bar. Nevertheless, the breakthrough finally came in the 56th minute, the diminutive onuwa orji benefitting from a defensive blunder and directs his effort to the top left corner inside the box for the game’s opener much to the delight of coach chinedu obasi okezie.
The visitors pressed on for an instant equalizer with a couple of floated shots on goal but the erratic goalkeeper for the home side kept his nerves with a string of touch overs, and their resilience almost paid off no thanks to Jonadab’s goal-bound clearance in the aftermath of a goalkeeping howler.
Relief for coach chinedu came in the 78th minute as second half entrant Aaron okoro sealed victory with a calmly placed goal inside the box from close range. The home team held on for a much needed victory after having gone 2 previous friendlies winless.
In a post match comment, ” The boys adhered to the first half pep talk, played to instructions, was meticulous not to give away the ball cheaply and that’s why we gained control of the game in the second half” , The jubilant coach chinedu obasi okezie was quoted as saying!
Jewel football academy seek to maintain consistency as they are billed for another high profiled friendly match next week.
