Governor Udom Emmanuel has reacted to the road accident by Akwa United on their way to Kaduna to play against Kaduna United in Enugu. In a post on his social media pages, the Governor said
“I am deeply moved by the sad incidence that involved players and staff of our Professional League One side, Akwa United Football Club who were involved in an auto crash with two other vehicles yesterday, during the team’s journey to honour a league match in Kaduna against Jigawa Golden Stars.
I thank God that sad and unfortunate as the crash was, no life was lost.
Let me commend the Enugu State Government and indeed the management of Enugu Rangers Football Club for their brotherly love and the quick assistance rendered to our team.
Your timely intervention helped in no small measures to mitigate further injuries and evacuation for urgent medical attention.
We are also happy with the understanding shown by the League Management Company, by promptly postponing the matchday 15 clash earlier billed for Sunday, March 14, 2021.
It is our collective prayer as a state, for a timely psychological and physical recovery of the players to reposition them on track in their quest to emerge tops in the league and represent the country in continental action.
We will do all we can, to further provide any needed assistance to the players and others who were affected.”
