The Abia State Government has confirmed the abduction of students of the Abia State University, Uturu in Okigwe, Imo State. The incident happened on Wednesday. This was contained in a press release by the commissioner of information, John Okiyi Kalu
The students ran into a gang of hoodlums who were operating along the Okigwe-Uturu road. The students were moving in a mini van between around 7pm when they ran into the armed gang and they were abducted and marched it a forest. Meanwhile, two of the students escaped while the location of the abducted students is still unknown
The Abia State Government said it is working with the Imo State Government and security agencies in both states in order to facilitate the rescue of the students. The Government advised members of the public to remain calm as it works to ensure the safety of the victims
The Government vowed to bring all criminal elements within the state to justice as the state takes the safety of Abians and visitors seriously
