Just one day after President Muhammadu Buhari and his ECOWAS counterparts stood by Mali President, Boubacar Keita and encouraged him to return peace to the county, protest has raged on in Mali as the opposition groups, under the aegis of June 5 movement led by Mahmoud Dicko, has rejected the position of ECOWAS on the matter
In a statement on Tuesday, the group insisted that the President quit his position as President.
Former President, Goodluck Jonathan was sent as a special envoy to Mali to help restore peace. He returned to a grand reception by President Muhammadu Buhari, who later moved to Mali to discuss the way forward in the country
However, the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari, Goodluck Jonathan and ECOWAS seem not to bear fruit as the opposition groups are pressing for a compromise from President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and are not afraid of sanctions from ECOWAS
The group said the decisions of the ECOWAS Bloc is a breach of the constitution of Mali
75-year-Old Keita has been in power since 2013 and this time round, is facing stiff pressure to resign. However, he has gone ahead to name his cabinet
