Two goals from Hyacinth and Williams were enough for Abia Comets as they beat Jewels Football Academy 2-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium in a thrilling friendly.
Jewels Football Academy took the battle to Abia Comets early in the game but failed to find a breakthrough as Abia Comets held off an early surge from Jewels Academy. Both sides played the ball more in midfield but it was Jewels’ Spencer who gave Abia Comets the first scare as he raced into the Comets box from his own half but he lost touch with the ball as he was exhausted after an exhilarating sprint and little support. In the 20th minute, the impressive Spencer dropped the ball to Obinna who shot wide.
One minute later, Abia Comets got their goal as Hyacinth finished off a blistering counter attack from Abia Comets. Abia Comets almost doubled the lead in the lead in the 39th minute when Jewels’ goalkeeper, Izuchukwu’s serve failed to meet the target but it met Abia Warriors’ Hyacinth who shot straight on goal but his effort came off the post
Abia Comets’ second goal came in the 73rd minute when Williams raced past the Jewels defense, dribbled past the goalkeeper and slot into an open net
Jewels got the chance to get a consolation goal in the 76th minute when Chigozie Silas got a lose ball in the Abia Comets box but he shot over the bar. The Ohanze based academy battled in vain to come back into the game
