The Abia State Governor’s Cup will resume on Monday with different teams from the local governments slugging it out for glory.

On Friday, a press conference was held at the Umuahia Township Stadium with many journalists in attendance, including the Sports Commissioner, Hon. Emeka Ikwuagwu

The chairman of the committee, Pa PC Mba, revealed that the gains of the competition are already being reaped. He said that scouts will be available to watch the players on Monday and in other games in order to spot young talents. He also said that a team of 30 players would be gleaned from the competition and will make up a team which will be groomed by the Abia State Government

The Governor’s Cup is an U-21 Football Competition for all the the local governments in Abia.

On his part, the Sports Commissioner, Hon. Emeka Ikwuagwu revealed that the Government will build on the success of the tournament. He alluded to the success of the school sports festival where two students were given scholarships to study in London and they will leave for London this January.

The Governor’s Cup will restart in Umuahia on Monday and will climax at the end of the month
