The Akwa Ibom State Football Association is set to host a Super Four tournament for the four club sides from the state playing in the two top tiers of Nigerian football.
Nigeria Professional Football League sides Akwa United and Dakkada FC, as well as Nigeria National League sides FC One Rockets and Ibom Youth FC will be slugging it out in the tournament.
Making the disclosure on a WhatsApp platform “Friends of Monty on Radio”, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Sports and Chairman Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey, said he felt the need for the competition to hold and had to make the suggestion to the FA.
“I have written to the state FA to host the Akwa Ibom Super Four for Akwa United, Dakkada FC, One Rockets and Ibom Youth FC”.
Bassey also revealed the plans for the showpiece.
“News conference will hold on Friday alongside the draws while the competition will start next Tuesday.”
NPFL Champions Akwa United and Dakkada FC will use the avenue to prepare for the forthcoming season that starts by month-end while FC One Rockets and Ibom Youth FC will use same to fine-tune preparation for next season’s NNL which is expected to start in the first weekend of December.
