Do we have FAZ in Zambia or we only have inept people or shambolic men at Football House? Have they informed our listening and humble President H.E Edgar Chagwa Lungu about Dickson Makwaza’s death? Because Dickson Makwaza deserves a national mourning just like Dennis Liwewe and other ministers who died in this country.
We don’t want a situation of Lottie Mwale, who was buried at old Leorlpards or new Leopards Cemetery but later his remains and grave were exhumed and later buried where George Kunda, the former Vice President, Dennis Liwewe, and Ben Mwila were buried — at the Leopards hill memorial Park in Lusaka to mention but a few.
I was expecting Dickson Makwaza, who led Zambia to the first ever Afcon final as a captain, led Mufulira Wanderers into the Semifinals in Africa’s top tier in 1977 and in the second tier Africa Winners Cup semifinals in 1978, and the same year won the league title with Mighty, took Zambia to Moscow Olympics 1980
He was the Coach with Dick Chama. Zambia played with Cuba and Russia, where they played well in 1980. The same year Cameroun reached the quarterfinals of the Fifa World Cup in Italy, but Zambia under Zoom and Dickson Makwaza beat them pants down at AFCON before the world cup the same year 1990.
Zambia with Efford Chabala, Derby Makinka, young Joe Bwalya, Linos Makwaza, John Soko, Whiteson Changwe, Eston Mulenga, Wisdom Chansa, to mention a few. Zoom and Makwaza led Zambia to the quarterfinals of Seoul 88 Olympic games where Zambia beat Italy 4-0, Iraq 2-2, Guatemala 4-0, but eventually lost to a very good German side in 1988 – remember 2 yrs later Germany beat Argentina 1-0 to win the Fifa World Cup in Italy.
President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has very good manners, and he is a listening President, accommodating, a type Zambia has never seen. If FAZ informed him about Dickson Makwaza, this time all of us would have been at Heroes Stadium for national mourning.
FAZ is busy with Andrew Kamanga’s candidature to CAF, instead of mourning Dickson Makwaza or inform the Government about this great man of Zambia. Moses Simwala, Godfrey Chitalu, Bernard Chanda, Boniface Simutowe, Brighton Sinyangwe, Emmanuel Mwape, Dick Chama, Edwin Mbaso, we love you, the great sons of the 1974 golden generation, I salute you.
