The second round of games at the Dreamland Abia State and Embassy of Hungary Cup were played on Monday at the Enyimba Stadium, a round that witnessed four draws.
In the first game of the day, New Generation FC boosted their chances of making it to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over G-Innovation. The Umuahia boys won their first game of the tournament on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Raw Talent and they now have six points, while G-Innovation lost their second game.
The second match of the day was between Raw Talent and Dreamland Academy and it ended 1-0 in favour of Dreamland Academy, courtesy of a clinical finish by Paul Gabriel. Raw Talent missed chances to score but one chance fell to Gabriel, who made no mistake in slotting home. This victory puts Dreamland Academy in a good position to qualify for the quarterfinals with six points from two games.
Donastars drew 1-1 with Buberio FC in the third game. Miracle Nwachukwu scored from the spot to put Donastars ahead, before Ezekiel Obasi also scored from the spot to draw Buberio level. This is Buberio’s first point in the competition after losing 2-0 to Enyimba U18 on Saturday while Donastars got their second point, after a draw with Benson FC last Saturday.
Uchecharia FC came in search of redemption after a painful 1-0 loss to Phantom Eagles but they fell short, drawing 0-0 with Inter Aba, who beat Abia Warriors 2-0 on Saturday. Both sides had opportunities to win the game but missed glaring chances.
Phantom Eagles drew goalless with Abia Warriors in the fifth game. Warriors lost 0-2 to Inter Aba on Saturday and needed a victory to brighten their chances of making it to the next round but will have to win their next game to give themselves a lifeline.
The last game of the day was an entertaining tie between Enyimba U18 and Benson FC. The Young Elephants beat Buberio FC 2-0 in their first game of the tournament and were ahead in the game with a fine solo goal from Samuel Okechukwu. Benson FC fought back in the dying moments of the game and drew level when Emmanuel David finished a smooth attack from the boys in red.
The final group games will be played on Tuesday to decide which teams would be confirmed for the quarterfinals.
