Enyimba FC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Remo Stars in an action-packed NPFL encounter in Aba. Enyimba needed a victory after a loss to Heartland on Saturday. There were changes by Finidi George which saw Samuel Stone starting ahead of Emeka Obioma and John Noble getting a start since he returned from AFCON

Victor Mbaoma had the first attempt on goal but his effort went wide as both teams did the battle in midfield. Samuel Stone came close to scoring in the 9th minute when he latched on to Isah Ali’s mistake but shot inches off target from a tight angle

Samuel Stone became the tormentor-in-chief against the boys from Ikenne and almost got an assist in the 12th minute but Mbaoma shot his pass wide

Andy Okpe kept the Enyimba defense busy and came close to scoring in the 25th minute after racing past Enyimba’s central defenders but John Noble came out to deny the tall striker and came close to scoring but Emmanuel Daniel denied Pascal Eze a goal in the 34th minute as he dived to his right to keep off a sublime header

Mbaoma was finally rewarded for his efforts in the 36th minute when he connected Fatai Abdullahi’s fine pass and shot past Emmanuel Daniel for Enyimba’s opener.

Both sides returned from the break with vigour and Remo Stars were not relenting as the youthful team entertained the fans with beautiful string of passes

Ekene Awazie addeed a second goal for Enyimba in the 50th minute when he shot into the net after meeting a pass from Samuel Stone who had beaten his markers to setup the goal.

Remo pulled a goal back in the 71st minute when Junior Nduka scored from the spot after Awazie clipped Ifegwu Ojukwu in the box

Austin Oladapo missed a chance to make it three for Enyimba in the 83rd minute after a quick Enyimba attack but his shot with his right foot went narrowly off target. Cyril Olisema would later rue a missed opportunity after failing to guide the ball into an empty net

Next for the People’s Elephants is a game against Dakkada FC in Uyo
