A 63rd minute free kick goal by Ifeanyi Anyanwu was all that hosts Cynosure FC needed to grab a 1-0 win over FC ONE Rockets in a rescheduled matchday 10 Nigeria National League (NNL) encounter at the Pa Oruta Ngele Stadium, Abakaliki.
Both sides headed into the game desperate for victory and started to push from the onset.
FC ONE Rockets midfielder Harry Peters’s cross in the second minute was well saved by Cynosure’s goaltender to prevent approaching attackers from causing any troubles.
The hosts then had their chance in the 14th minute but Christian Nwoke was alert to get his strong hand to a shot that was goal-bound.
Abel Abba’s blocked shot in the 17th minute after a blistering run was followed by his free kick in the 25th minute which was saved.
A few more chances fell the way of both sides but the scoreline remained goalless at the break.
The first chance of the second half for FC ONE Rockets fell to Maclyn Biokpo who connected Harrison Ebah’s cross but his header lacked power to trouble Cynosure’s number one.
What proved the difference came in the 63rd minute when Ifeanyi Anyanwu fired home a low free kick beyond Nwoke to put the hosts in front.
FC ONE Rockets pushed for a leveller but Harrison Ebah’s 72nd minute free kick and substitute Ofem Nneoyi’s flick header in stoppage time all failed to hit the target as the Indomitables suffered defeat.
Drawn bye for matchday 13, up next for FC ONE Rockets is a matchday 14 clash against Warri Wolves on the 21st of May.
