The Federal Government may stop funding the Nigeria Football Federation as advised by FIFA and captured in the Orasanye Report which will soon be implemented by the Government

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the White Paper Report be subjected to immediate review and this will see the Government restructure the civil service and this will save cost

The NFF still receives funds from the Federal Government and is still seen as a Federal agency.

The Federal Government will save about 1.3 Billion Naira if they stop funding the NFF and this means the NFF will source its funds if the recommendation is implemented

Some of the changes in the report cannot be made by executive fiats but they can be repealed by legislation. The NFA act may be repealed and the NFF restructured

The NFF bill which will restructure the NFF and grant it autonomy from the Government is not yet signed by the President and this could be light at the end of the tunnel as the bill may be signed and the NFA act repealed.

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick had earlier said that the Federation is almost self sufficient but despite this statement, the Federation battles with finance and some are a result of bureaucratic bottlenecks.

If Federal Government heeds FIFA’s advice, then NFF will have full autonomy
