Barrister Inibehe Effiong has penned an emotional piece after he was released from detention in jail after one month. Below is his message

I am grateful to God Almighty for His mercies upon my life and for leading me though this path that can only be attributed to sheer providence. The totality of my existence from the formative stage of my life is a credible proof of the existence of the unbeatable grace of God.

My appreciation goes to my immediate and extended family for the support that they gave me during my unjust incarceration.

I am humbled and most sincerely grateful to the immediate past President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the courageous and indomitable Mr. Olumide Akpata, and his entire leadership for the unrelenting and uncommon solidarity, support and the courageous actions and public statements taken and made during the period of my incarceration.

I am also thankful to the 1st Vice President of the NBA, Mr. John Aikpokpo Martins, who led the NBA delegation to visit me at the custodial centre and refused to be compromised by the campaign of calumny, sinister plots, malicious and vindictive machinations by agents of lies, corruption and perfidy in Akwa Ibom State.

I salute the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NBA for its resolution to pursue redress against the abuse of the sacred judicial oath in my case.

I am eternally indebted to my lead counsel, the irrepressible Femi Falana SAN, and other members of my legal team, including Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika SAN, Aikpokpo Martins Esq, Mr. Monday Ubani Esq, Olufunke Edun Esq, Funmi Falana FCI Arb, Femi Aborisade Esq, Taiwo Olawanle Esq, Nsikak Akai Esq, Augustine Asuquo Esq, S. M. Oyeghe Esq, E. E. Philip Esq, Joseph Eleh Esq and a retinue of other Senior Advocates of Nigeria and legal practitioners who have also indicated interest to be part of my legal team to fight for justice for me though the courts.

I cannot but specially appreciate the civil society and the human rights community in Nigeria for voicing out in solidarity with me and demanding justice for me.

I am humbled by the continuous and sustained support and coverage from the media which has exposed the injustice done to me to the world. My heartfelt appreciation further goes to the Nigerian social media community, particularly Twitter and Facebook communities, for their support.

Finally, my gratitude goes to every single lawyer, commentator and citizen in Nigeria and beyond who acted or spoke out against my unjust incarceration; including the friends, clients, associates, fans and well wishers who came from all parts of the country to visit me while in detention or sent felicitations.

The end of my one month incarceration is just one of the several chapters of my fight against the unjust and unwarranted order made against me on the 27th day of July, 2022 by His Lordship, the Honourable Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Justice Ekaette Fabian-Obot.

I congratulate the new leadership of the Bar and wish them a successful tenure and the courage to pursue the course of justice and the rule of law.

History will vindicate the just.

Signed

Inibehe Effiong
