The Legal Adviser of the Labour Party in Abia State, Nwandu Tobechi Charles Esq. has given insight into the invitation of Hon. Prince Ndubueze and other party executives by the Police to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Umuahia for questioning.
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, some members of the Prince Ndubueze led Labour Party were invited by the Police, a visit which the Legal Adviser said is due to a petition.
“The synopsis of that petition is that the National Vice Chairman in the person of Ceekay Igara is acting on illegal capacity. That his tenure was dissolved as the petitioner wrote and that he is busy with cohorts extorting money in the name of Labour Party, Abia State. That is the subject of that petition. They were invited to give their statements.”
On Saturday, the party’s National Vice Chairman, South East, Ceekay Igara was arrested while in a meeting with party executives in Aba and was taken to Umuahia by the Police after which he was released at midnight.
Nwandu Tobechi Charles Esq, gives an update about that incident.
“Igara on Saturday gave his statement and told the police that he is the current National Vice Chairman, South East of the Party. That the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja reaffirmed his position and he is not or was not acting on illegal capacity as was alleged in the petition.”
He said the Police were doing their jobs in unraveling the true situation of matters, as it helps them to make better decisions. He also said it was a necessary part of the investigations in order to ascertain the facts.
“Police only did their job. I’m not perturbed because as a lawyer, we know the duty of the Police. This is one of their duties so I cannot express dissatisfaction in what they have done.”
He further restasted the party’s readiness for the November 2 Local Government elections and pleased with the Governor, Dr Alex Otti to allow free and fair election.
“Labour Party is ready for the election. What Labour is demanding from the State is free and fair election. The party is ready, and asking the Governor to use his party, the Labour Party because his presence attracted all of us to Labour Party and Abia State is a Labour Party State. They are pleading that he should allow the election to go through democratic process so that those in Labour Party, which is his party will emerge victoriously in the election.”
