The People’s Democratic Party candidate in the Edo state governorship election Godwin Obaseki, has been declared the winner of the election, he scored the highest votes in Saturday’s election.
The result of the election held at all the 18 local government of Edo state was declared by The Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) in Benin the Edo state capital.
“Godwin Obaseki of the PDP having satisfied the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hearby declared the winner of the election” Johnson Alalibo the chief returning officer of INEC in Edo state, announced on Sunday Afternoon.
Mr Obaseki polled a total of 307,955 votes to defeat his main rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) which polled 223,619 votes, Obaseki also won in 13 of the 18 local governments in Edo state and thus scored more than 25 percent of votes in two third of the Local Government in the state to satisfy the requirements of the law to be declared Governor.
It could be recalled that Mr Obaseki won his first election as Edo state Governor in 2016 with the APC then supported by Adams Oshiomhole, the immediate past Governor of Edo state and former national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr Ize-Iyamu was then the candidate of PDP.
