As the country is still in a season of drama and court actions, another drama has happened in Spain, this time against Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi. The minister is attending a climate change event in event. The real reason behind the attack is not yet ascertained. The attackers were soon dispersed by Spanish Police who came to the rescue of the minister. Amaechi disclosed this through his Twitter handle. He said: “Some minutes ago, I was attacked by a few misguided Nigerians while on national assignment at a climate change event in Madrid, Spain. They were quickly repelled by the Spanish police before they could do any harm. I am fine. I was not hurt. Thanks for your support & prayers.” http://opr.news/s30d80569191206en_ng
It will be recalled that former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, was attacked in Germany when he went for an Igbo festival, an attack that was condemned by the international community and Nigerians.
Earlier, Rotimi Amaechi had denied receiving pension as a former Governor after a court ordered the federal government to stop former Governors from receiving pension. “I have never requested for or collected one kobo as pension from Rivers State Govt. If offered, I will politely decline & request that the money should be given to Rivers State pensioners. I do not believe that I should receive pension as ex-Governor of Rivers State while serving as a minister.”
Nigerians have condemned the attack. Prominent Nigerians are yet to respond as at the time of filing in this report
