Chelsea’s Sam Kerr has been named the best women’s player in the world according to the Guardian. She tops a list of 100 best players in the world as compiled by the Guardian. Kerr beat off challenge from Lyon’s Lucy Bronze and Balon d’or winner, Megan Rapinoe. Kerr finished second last year, the first time the Guardian and The Offside Rule presented the list together and she is the fourth winner of the award, following Harder, Lieke Martens (2017) and Ada Hegerberg.

Kerr recently signed for Chelsea from Chicago Red Stars in USA. She had a tremendous season for Chicago Red Stars. She scored 5 times for Australia at the World Cup. Kerr won the award with 3, 145 , 18 points clear of Lucy Bronze, who finished four points ahead of Megan Rapinoe.

Kerr’s records are eye-catching. Kerr has won five consecutive golden boots across the NWSL and W-League, is the all-time top scorer in both leagues with 69 and 70 goals respectively, holds the records for the most goals in a single season of both leagues, the most goals in a single NWSL match and quickest W-League hat-trick.

A total of 93 judges from 44 countries voted. Other Chelsea players made it to the top 100. South Korean Ji So-Yun, Erin Cuthbert, Guro Reiten, Maren Mjelde, Bethany England, and Frank Kirby
