Speak for yourself!!
Today, at the summer lesson I went to conduct with a colleague which was supposed to end by 12. The man told us that it will rather end by 1 pm.
I had to speak up because it wasn’t what we agreed on, and I had other appointments.
After everything, I left by 12, but my colleague stayed till 1 pm because she didn’t want any conflict at all, so she didn’t say anything.
Why did I share this?
We encounter situations each day that requires us to stand our ground and speak for ourselves. Still, we find it difficult to speak up and say our minds.
Probably, because we want to get through the day with no conflict at all and that’s great, but it can also mean getting walked over.
It can feel awkward to defend ourselves in certain situations, and being caught in tense situations can rouse painful memories and insecurities.
Speaking up can remedy the situation and give us the needed opportunity for upliftment.
Communication is vital in all we do.
Remember that as a baby, you were named by your mother because you didn’t have a voice, now you have a voice, of what use will it be if you can’t use it to defend yourself?
Defending yourself doesn’t mean that you should get involved in unnecessary arguments. It means that you should speak up for yourself to avoid being trampled upon.
Avoid hiding under other people, or letting others speak for you.
You are the one wearing the shoe and you know where it pinches the most.
How often do you stand up for yourself? Probably less than you should.
Make it a goal to always speak for yourself!!
